Anyone for tennis?

As the Wimbledon championships are underway we have one colour in our mind – WHITE. The tradition which has been implemented for over a century is one of the most famous dress codes in sports.

Not only is white a reflection of Wimbledon tennis but it is the grand slam colour of summer. In this post we are looking at our favourite whites.

So ace this summer season by avoiding breaking the rules and following our guide to our best white shoes in our current stock. And yes off-white and cream is off the court for our special feature.

Nike Air Force 1 ’07 Lv8

128599b 128599It’s almost impossible to go wrong with this classic Nike style. The Nike Air Force LV sports a leather upper for comfort with a woven detail across the shoe. The full length Air-Sole unit is perfect for cushioning and impact protection.

Birkenstock X Papillio Arizona Birko-Flor Platform

Birkenstock_platform_whiteThe Arizona platform is a must this summer. The popular model from the Papillio collection creates an elevated look both for fashion and comfort. Team this pair with jeans and a casual t-shirt for an everyday look.

Minnetonka 1975

minnetonka-white-white-1975-reissue-fringe-boots-product-2-973318580-normal

Although they might be boots, the short style allows the pair to pass for an easy wear summer shoe. The fringe feature automatically gives the boots a festival feel and is a classic fit for our British weather.

Nike Roshe One

nike-roshe-one-triple-white-000

Looking the part for the gym has never been easier with the Nike Roshe One. Worn with or without socks the shoes allow the feet to breathe whilst providing a lightweight feel for easy movement.

Lacoste L.ydro 116 1

Lacoste_L_ydro_116_1_whiteAn in-between sandals and trainers, slip-ons are always the ideal shoes for summer. The Lacoste L.ydro features a cushioned insole and canvas lining. For an effortless look these slip-ons can be dressed up or dressed down.

festival-1

Everything was easier before 2005. You just got some of your best looking old clothes and shoes to enjoy those days in a tent and in front of the stage with your friends at your side and a drink in your hand. Indeed you had to worry about looking great just in case that girl or guy (or both) were around, dress to impress you know… But it was mostly about looking nice without ruining your best footwear and clothes for the rest of the year. Then, that summer of 2005 at Glastonbury, Kate Moss stomped in the mud wearing a pair of Hunter Wellington boots and the game changed forever. The British style icon thankfully forced us all to stop worrying about wearing practical comfortable clothes and shoes that could easily adapt to unpredictable weathers (and probably lakes of mud) but to look chic and show some style even in the wildest conditions.

Well, maybe you need to keep worrying about your clothing but here at Scorpion Shoes we’ve decided to give you a helping hand at least with your footwear. We’ve been delving into magazine articles, influencers’ selfies and blog posts to grab an idea of what the trendies and TOWIEs (if that’s an indicator) are going to wear for the festival season. So here is our selection of favourites for every occasion and scenario. Are you ready?

Starting from THE CLASSICS, immortal styles which are going to work in every occasion. An easy pick, true, but also a wise one:

-After Kendall Jenner’s Instagram post last year, white sneakers are going to be everywhere this 2016. Nike Air Force 1 is the eternal standard but the Adidas Superstar will be seen everywhere too. Why not try the black option? Black is the new black, you know…

Nike_Air_Max_90_Essential_Black_Black

Nike_Air_Max_90_White_White  Adidas_Superstar_White_Black

-Converse is a festival classic and you can go for the most iconic fabric but maybe you’d feel safer choosing the colourful rubber or the more durable leather option.

Converse_Chuck_Taylor_All_Stars_Leather_White

Converse_Chuck_Taylor_All_Star_Rubber_Ox_Yellow

-Also an eternal style favourite, Vans is coming back stronger than ever this year. You can go for the special 50th anniversary or the Hoffmann Fabrics collaboration editions but as we’re speaking about classics, the Old Skool has always been (and will always be) there.

Vans_Old_Skool_Black_White_Checkerboard

As for classics, we also need to consider SHOES, always a smarter option which is also compatible with the latest streetwear trends.

-Dr. Martens 8249 shoes, East Londoners’ official footwear, are a good option for those who play hard at electronic or ska nights.

Dr_Martens_Occupational_8249_Black

-Even more arty, the deconstructed suede shoe Trigenic by Clarks is an option for the avant garde who also look for total comfort.

Clarks_Originals_trigenic_Flex_Black

-Moccasins are definitely on trend this year: they might be more suitable for drier climates (as this trend actually began in Coachella’s dusty environment) but with the Minnetonka suede moccasin/ankle boots you are going to look like the Wild West Queen.

Minnetonka_Double_Fringe_Chestnut

Another classic range, perfect for the ever-changing British weather, is BOOTS. Here are our choice picks;

-The durable and all-purpose Caterpillar are the perfect match for hip hop and RnB environments.

Caterpillar_Colorado_Honey

-The Dr. Martens classic 1460 boot is more suitable for indie and alternative gigs and with the 90s’ comeback, we’re sure you are absolutely in!

Dr_Marten_1460_Black

-Another big trend this year is ankle and cowboy boots… We have chosen the Blundstone in burgundy to match almost any outfit and weather/music condition.

Blundstone_Burgundy_Rub

-Wellington boots are a festival classic which work great both for comfort and style. Although Hunters are a bit off trend this year, the handmade and super high quality French brand Le Chameau can offer a very distinct and elegant alternative.

Le_Chameau_Country_Vibram_Green

Also, Wellington booties are always a good choice and we are definitely in love with the classic sailor charm of the Barbour Beacon.

Barbour_Beacon_Wellington_Navy

Trying to avoid muddy floors but wanting to keep your feet fresh and cool? Then FLATFORMS are made for you!

-There’s no fresher flatform than the Fred Perry Phoenix, with its mesh fabric, they guarantee a cool retro look!

fred-perry-phoenix-navy-white

-The Superga 2790, with its iconic shape and huge variety of colours, is always a good choice but, if you’re feeling a bit more summery, then you definitely have to go for the rope sole collection, mixing the best of flatforms with the natural and warm espadrilles look.

Superga_2790_Rope

Superga_2790_flatform_black_black

Oh and espadrilles! We are all waiting for the first batch of heat to wear these comfortable and light shoes and pretend to be Don Johnson. They’re omnipresent on beaches, pools and of course festivals. And when speaking about espadrilles, of course Toms is the reference. You can go for the most classic ones or this year’s new design, the open toe ones. With their large range of designs and prints it’s always difficult to choose one…

Toms_Linen_Rope_Sole_Grey

Toms_Open_Toe_Chambray

Last but not least, an unmissable item for any proper summer outfit and something that you can’t miss when packing for a festival, SANDALS. You will need them for taking a shower (if you are one of that kind) but they also are a big trend accessory nowadays!

-On one hand you can go for the classier styles that different brands are offering, from the wedges on the Tommy Hilfiger style to the high quality leather and exceptional design of the Camper models, not forgetting the awesome and delicate Hush Puppies, perfect for a warm and natural look.

Tommy_Hilfiger_Myriam_9D_Wedge_Navy

Toms_Cross_Stitch_Zoe_Red_White

Camper_Pimpom_Dark_Brown

-On the other hand, this year’s biggest trend comes from two classics reinvented. Both the Nike Benassi and the Adidas Adilette are brought back to life with the addition of white socks. Yes, white socks and sports slides… What some years ago was still an aesthetic affront has become the must wear of this season. Even Miley Cyrus and Rita Ora can be seen wearing them all the time! And, of course, it all started some years ago with the combination of the most famous German sandals brand, Birkenstock, and thick wool socks, being worn even during wintertime by almost every fashion connoisseur around the globe.

BONUS TIP

Not to forget, one of the most important fashion accessories you need for a complete festival outfit (and the only one which is absolutely necessary, to be honest) is a good BACKPACK. We have chosen two different styles from our huge range of bags. The all purpose classic Converse bag is full of different sized pockets and perfect to keep all your stuff under control during those long and crazy festival days. Our other choice is the high quality and very original Sprayground Livest One with a lovely and colourful ethnic-inspired print and golden details that is going to make you stand out from the crowd which ever festival you end up at!

Substance Over Style: How Can Brands Capitalise On New Found Fashion Trends?

The sports and fashion clothing worlds have been drawing closer over recent years, with the biggest companies from each side actively embracing the other. This has been born out of the rising popularity of “ugly chic”, which refers to items such as hiking sandals by companies such as Birkenstock, which are now worn by celebrities and endorsed by fashion bloggers.

How Can Brands Make The Most Of Their Fashion Fame

On the other side of the clothing world is the rising growth of sportswear which is worn at any time of day, leading to an explosion of new clothing from the likes of Nike and Adidas, along with footwear like Fred Perry canvas shoes. This has been referred to by commentators as a more practical style of fashion labelled normcore, which favours the simple and mundane over a quirky, individual style.

However this ‘normcore’ trend was quickly discovered to be more of a media retelling of the famous fable ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’, with the practical brands essentially being duped into believing they had been accepted into the fashion community.

fred perry canvas shoes

Today the life-cycle of a fashion trend is shorter than ever, and the rise of social media has only encouraged it to move faster. So the question these brands must now ask is, how can they capitalise on new found fashion fame, while at the same time not alienating their core customers?

For Birkenstock, it comes down to the fact they have always been a German orthopaedic footwear brand which essentially has no interest in fashion. This hasn’t stopped some of the biggest names in fashion from endorsing their products, although like every other trend it was gone before many even knew it had started.

“We don’t want to be a super trendy fashion brand and don’t want too much glamour around the brand,” explains Jochen Gutzy, head of communications at Birkenstock, speaking from Brazil, where he is working on the brand’s launch there.

“We are weird and strange and this is how we want to keep it. This is what customers expect from us – not to be too loud, but talk about their expectations in terms of quality, function and affordability,” he says.

fred perry canvas shoes

The success of the brand, initially back in 2013, was down to a combination of factors. This included their quality, as they are produced in their own German factories, and also the ethics of the company and the sustainability of how they are produced. No longer are consumers simply judging products on their looks and price, but also their ‘green’ reputation and practicality.

Game, Set, Match. Wimbledon 2015

screen-shot-2015-06-26-at-09-58-34

It’s Wimbledon time! And as such, our mind are on classic white tennis shoes.
I don’t mean the high tech trainers that Andy Murray and co will be wearing
for the next fortnight, but the traditional plimsoll-styles more akin to our other
great British tennis hero, Fred Perry.

The all white monochromatic look has taken over this season and Wimbledon gives us a great
reason to rock this sports luxe style. This trend has us all loving some clean cut classics like
the Adidas Stan Smiths, Lacoste and Nike.

Here some of our favourite styles:

FEDERICO MAURO’S ICONIC SHOES

After designer Federico Mauro came out with his instantly
successful series of Famous Eyewear he published few new series
included one about iconic shoes. It’s amazing how what people wear can become
a representation of who they are. This minimalist
representation of iconic people in history tells it all with so little and is one
example of such ‘trademarks’ is shoes.

20 Of The Weirdest Shoes, Ever

Just found a group of picture from Refinery29
called ’20 Of The Weirdest Shoes, Ever’,
and I may have to agree on a lot of them.

image

Invisible Shoe—Mirrored plates cover this shoe and reflect
whatever surface you’re walking on. Also great for looking up skirts.

image (1)

Furry Heel Shoe—Is it just us, or do these look oddly inviting?

image (2)

Boxing Glove Shoe—For boxers who prefer to fight with their feet.

image (3)

Heel-less Converse Shoe—What Daphne Guinness might have worn in college.

image (4)

Pokemon Gameboy Platform—For the Pokemon enthusiast
who’s also into breaking their ankles.

image (5)

Elephant Dung Shoe—Not only will people be able to see you
from a mile away, they’ll be able to smell you, too.

image (6)

Finsk Aerodynamic Heel—Defy gravity in these aerodynamic
heels from Finsk.

image (7)

Gun Hoof Shoe—These shoes are supposed to be a message about the paradox
of taxidermy—that in death, an animal achieves immortality.
We say, why not give these a shot?

image (8)

Human Foot Shoe—We can’t even look at these without dying a little
on the inside.

image (9)

Flipper High Heel—Because a lady musn’t sacrifice her style,
even when she’s scuba diving.

image (10)

Translucent Hamster Stripper Boot—We can’t imagine what
horrors would happen if the sole of the shoe ever shattered. 🙁

image (11)

Leopard Stiletto—Cougars—this shoe’s for you!

image (12)

Tusk Heel—We imagine that cavewomen used to sit around the
fire and swap stories about where they got their new tusk-laden mules.

image (13)

Baby Abacus Heel—Are you a pole dancer and need to
bring your baby to work? Have we got a shoe for you!

image (14)

Dildo Shoe—Yep.

image (15)

Mole Slippers—What’s cozier than sitting in front of a fireplace
and slipping your foot into a hollowed-out mole?

image (16)

MP3 Sneaker—A soundsystem you can actually wear.
If this doesn’t get your toes ‘a twinklin’, we don’t know what else will.

image (17)

Platforms For Prostitutes—This shoe has an emergency system
that alerts the authorities as well as sets off an alarm and sends GPS
coordinates to public emergency services or sex workers’ rights groups.

image (18)

Hamburger Nike Sneaker—This is a sneaker that’d go well with a side of fries.

image (19)

Plant Wedge—Shoes you’ll want to wear out in the rain.
